Canadian Idol 2006

Ah, yes. Canadian Idol. Thousands of Canadians across our home and native land come out for this show to get a shot at winning Idol fame. So lo and behold, Jenn, Joella and I ended up auditioning for Canadian Idol this year. Talk about jumping on the bandwagon. Hahahahaa! I must say, the experience was a lot of fun!! I learned a whoooole lot and met a bunch of amazingly friendly (well, it's Canada eh?) and talented folks.

The way the whole thing works is you audition once with a group of 5 people. If the producers like you there, you get a yellow piece of paper that brings you to the next round of auditions. If the next set of producers likes you there, you get a blue piece of paper that allows you to audition in front of the celebrity judges on another day. Good news: I got the yellow piece of paper. Bad news: I didn't get the blue. But then again, I don't know if that really qualifies as "bad news" for me. Hehehe.... Although, I did end up auditioning 3 times. Why? Well, in my second audition, the producer there liked me and my song ("Smile" by Charlie Chaplin), but she needed a "second opinion." Teeheehee... So off I go into another room to sing for another producer. She made me sing song after song after song after song. I swear, it's a good thing I know a lot of songs from karaoke or else, I would've been stuck!

Now apparently, all the producers I auditioned for loved my personality. One producer said I had a fabulous personality. Another pair of producers said I was, "Vivacious and sparky." Heck yeah! I had nooo idea that people see me that way. I've been called "nice and outgoing" before but never vivacious and sparky. I was sooo flattered that after hearing that, whether I made it through or not didn't matter. (Mind you, that was never really a big concern for me. I was thisclose to skipping out anyway.) Having them compliment who I am is something that'll last forever. Probably even longer than the title of being a Canadian Idol. Was it worth singing song after song after song just to have them turn me away? Probably not. As flattering as it was to have them ask me to sing a lot of songs, they could've just told me straight off the bat that I wasn't cut out for the show. Then I could've gone home and slept! Mwaahahahaaa!

All in all, it was an awesome, fun-filled, looong day. As for being the next Canadian Idol, I don't think it's really for me. Don't get me wrong, getting to be on the show is great exposure, especially for someone who's looking to make it into the entertainment industry. But I think I'll stick with going for my dream the old-fashioned way, through tons of auditions, hardwork, perseverance and most of all, prayer. Besides, as sappy as this may sound, in my eyes, I think we're ALL Canadian Idols already anyway. *wink*
